President Message May 2021

President’s Message

Manny Caldera, President, May

“Happy Mother’s Day and Memorial Day…

What happen? “Well let me tell you…

More individuals are getting vaccinated and as of this morning, what I understand is California is up to 50%, which have received at least one vaccine.  Yeah!!

I called and spoke to Eric this afternoon from Arcadia Community Church, and she informed me that the Church is opening up to Worship only on May 2, 2021.  There will be another announcement on May 25, 2021, by the Arcadia Community Church Board Members.  I will keep you and the WFQG Board informed.

Over the last several months, as I was flicking through YouTube, I came across someone called Quilt Roadies.  As I worked on my mystery quilt project, I was impressed watching as Anne travels across the country visiting various quilts shops and projects she has been working on.  Listening to Anne, I felt as though I ‘ve known her for several years.   I found a new friend!  But do not tell Cindy.  Her studio, is called the Beehive, which is on the second floor, which includes and small longarm and sewing machine, and tons of material.  What else is new!  Check Quilt Roadies out.

WFQG had their first Zoom Sew-In, with 16 members that participated.  Our discussions ranged from Outer Space, Quilting gages, Template’s, Longarm quilting, Show-&-Tell, Diaper Services, Retirement, Remodeling, Zoom Cameras, our new member: Margaret Holzman new book: Geometric Knit Blanket, and some good gossip.  Ok, that was a mouth-full.

As a result, of our first Sew-In, Elizabeth Phinder has put together a document with all the Links from our discussions and will be e-mailing out to our membership.  What a treat!

Our guess speaker for the month of May 26, 2021, is Patricia Belyea, which will present “The Alluring World of Japanese Yukata Quilts.

Will see you at our WFQG General Meeting the evening of May 26, 2021, 7:00 p.m.  Let see if we can exceed 50 attendees.
